For many years the beauty of the mountains in our region has attracted nationally know artists of all disciplines. In recognition of this talent, an innovative program unique to North Carolina was developed. Begun in 1994 as the brainchild of a local sculptor, the late Jerry Clemens, the Arts Placement Service offers local artists an opportunity to share their work with the public in local business environments. This program was awarded a Governor’s Business Award in the Arts and Humanities in 1995 for its innovative approach and has become a model for other communities since then.
Work is offered for sale at each venue and, as works of art are sold, new art is provided by the Arts Council to replace it. 75% of the proceeds from the sale of the art goes directly to the artist, with 25% being reinvested in the programming of the Arts Council. Artists or businesses interested in participating in the program should contact the Arts Council at 828-264-1789 or by coming by the Blue Ridge ArtSpace at 377 Shadowline Drive in Boone.
