For the month of March, the Arts Council will be displaying the beautiful quilts created by members of the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild in its main gallery and the work of William Craden Bass in its Serendipity Gallery. The exhibits featured a reception on March 1st from 5:30 until 7:30 pm.
The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild is featuring a quilt exhibit entitled “In Memory of Maggie”, created in commemoration of Maggie Harmon. The exhibit is comprised of various fabrics and unfinished projects from Maggie Harmon’s surviving work. There are 13 quilts on display, all created from a group effort and each will feature an original, unique design. The quilts incorporate various types of fabrics, that range from Civil War era reprints to 1930’s seed sack Calico fabrics.
Proceeds from the gallery sales will go toward funding speakers for the Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild and toward new fabrics to be used in quilts that the guild donates to various goodwill projects. The Mountain Laurel Quilt Guild meets on the first Thursday of each month at the Senior Center Building, located at 132 Poplar Grove Connector Road.
Gallery Exhibits are sponsored each month by Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff.
