The Watauga Barn Quilts began in 2007 as a project of Handmade in America with grant funds from the Blue Ridge National Heritage Area. The Watauga Trail provides a link between the quilt trails in Ashe, Avery, Madison, Mitchell and Yancey Counties. Quilts painted by families, community groups, school children, and volunteers adorn barns, homes, schools, and even businesses. They link to one another through these trails, but they also link these mountain communities to the traditions of their rich Appalachian heritage. Since Boone is centrally located, we have divided the county into 4 quadrants to help you plan your tour. Click the link to explore the area of the county in which you’re traveling:
You can also come by Blue Ridge ArtSpace and pick up a brochure with all these directions in one handy, compact package. Suggested donation $2.
