High Country Annual Pig Roast and Hoedown

High Country 7th Annual Pig Roast and Hoedown, August 2, 2008 at Ned Trivette's Farm

What could be a better way to spend an August evening than in a beautiful pastoral setting enjoying delicious barbeque, a cake walk, quilt raffles, exploring old cabins, square dancing to some good ole mountain music, and visiting with friends?

If this is your idea of a good time, then the Watauga Arts Council’s 7th Annual Pig Roast and Hoedown  being held Saturday, August 2 from 5 to 9 p.m. at Ned Trivette’s farm in Sugar Grove is the place to be.

Join friends for an authentic mountain experience enjoying a pig-pickin on an historic restored farm complete with mountain cabins and a beautifully renovated farmhouse and barn. Visitors are encouraged to explore the cabins and imagine how early mountain settlers lived. See a working windmill that was recently installed on the farm. Or just enjoy skimming rocks across the pond.

History buffs, can wander through the old cemetery on the property, reading the headstones and learning something of the people who lived in the area years ago.

Past party goers say this is really some good eating with the pig slow roasted by Appalachian State University’s  Vice-Chancellor Emeritus Ned Trivette.  After enjoying a satisfying meal with all the fixings, tap your feet to the blue grass and old time music provided by some talented local musicians. For those who want to “swing their partner” the band will play tunes and square dances will be called. No experience is necessary to join the square dance, and all ages are welcome.

Donated cakes from area restaurants and local bakers will give incentive to join in the cake walk. This is always a popular activity for anyone who likes cake – and who doesn’t like cake?

Two barn quilts will be raffled off during the event.

Sponsored by the Watauga Arts Council, the minimum donation is $40 per person with a group of four costing $140. Children 12 and younger are half price.  A hot dog plate will be available for children for $5. The tickets are tax deductible and directly benefit the programs and services offered by the Arts Council
