WAC Gallery Information for January 2008

Watauga Arts Council galleries during the month of January feature the artwork of Watauga County art teachers.

Both the Mazie Jones Gallery and the Open Door Gallery have a mixed-media collection of the selected work of art teachers from Watauga High School, the eight elementary/middle schools, and Two Rivers Community School. The high school teachers contributing to the exhibit include Lori Hill, Susan Dunn, Shelton Wilder, and Whit Whitaker. The elementary/middle school teachers are Jill Huffman, Dasha Trethewey and Chad Safferstone. Kelly Sheets is Two River’s Community School art teacher.

The exhibit includes paintings and drawings, as well as jewelry and pottery.

Both exhibits are on display from Thursday, January 3 until Friday, January 25 from noon to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays. The  Arts Council galleries are also open Thursdays from 7:30 to 11 p.m. during the acoustic jams at the Jones House .

The gallery reception to welcome these exhibits is Friday, January 4 from 5:30-8 p.m. and is held in conjunction with downtown Boone’s First Friday Art Crawl.

The galleries are sponsored in part by Cheap Joe’s Art Stuff and Grassroots Funds of the North Carolina Arts Council. The WAC’s offices and galleries are located in the Jones Jones House Community & Cultural Center, owned by the town of Boone.
